In order to maintain the stability of food security during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Surabaya City Government continues to plant food crops in various fields in the Surabaya City area.
The planting was carried out from May 28 to June 30, 2020 and has been carried out in several locations, including in Lakarsantri Village, Karah Village, Sumber Rejo District, Menukal Hamlet, Forest Forest Park, Mangrove Botanical Garden, BTKD and other public facilities. This is in accordance with the direction of the Mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini to utilize vacant land as a place for urban farming.
The planting is a joint project between the Department of Food and Agriculture and the Department of Green Open Cleaning, and is assisted by residents around the location who are quite enthusiastic in managing the urban farming.
As of June 26, 2020, 22,108 Cassava Trees, 1,380 Taro Trees, 11,539 Cassava Trees, 850 Corn Trees, 284 Banana Trees, 1,287 Rice with a total planting area of 23,017 m2.
